Ron English, Diet Coke Wall, 2011
Ron English is an American street artist from Decatur, Illinois, famous for subverting cultural icons and corporate logos. Some of his more prominent works include satirical pieces involving McDonalds, Apple, and Mickey Mouse. He typically hijacks billboards and posts his own versions of typical advertisements. A fellow traveler to Adbusters and the No Logo movement, English once created a parody of \ Apple’s famous “Think Different” campaign where he placed Charles Manson in the advertisement in place of the “Great Minds” Apple favored. The photographs in the exhibition document some of English’s recent work detourning corporate marketing of food in a society in which obesity and diabetes are enormous health problems.
